Living in Austin
Austin is named after Nicholas Austin, who brought the first settlers here beginning in 1796, mostly Quakers from New Hampshire. The municipality stretches along the western shore of Lake Memphrémagog, in a landscape of hills and forests. Its heritage roads, on maps since 1825, are lined with barns and period homes. You will find year-round residents, retirees and second-home owners.

Religious heritage
The Benedictine abbey, surrounded by its cheese factory and its lands, has formed a small separate municipality since 1939, detached from Austin. A walking trail starts at Reginald-Aubrey-Fessenden Park in Austin and leads to the abbey along the lake.
