Granted as a seigneury in 1672 to the sieur de La Valtrie, Lavaltrie saw its first settlers arrive around 1675, and the current town was born in 2001 from the merger of the parish of Saint-Antoine-de-Lavaltrie and the village of Lavaltrie. Its old village runs along the St. Lawrence River on the chemin du Roy, with its Victorian houses, its church and its wharf. The town is also known as the starting point of Honoré Beaugrand's famous Chasse-Galerie legend. You will find many families and commuters who take advantage of Highway 40.
