Living in Richelieu
Richelieu sits on the east bank of the river of the same name, across from Chambly. As early as 1899, a hydroelectric plant operated here, and traces of these installations can still be seen from the shore. The current city was created in 2000 from the merger of Richelieu and Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours. Its population grew by nearly 10% between the 2016 and 2021 censuses.

What draws people here
Transportation
Routes 112 and 133 and the nearby Autoroute 10 make getting around easy, and exo buses connect Richelieu to Chambly, Brossard and Longueuil.
La Route des Champs
This regional bike path crosses the Rouville RCM, and an 8 km section linking Richelieu to Marieville opened in June 2024.
Riverside parks
Parc Michel-Chartrand, parc Marcel-Fortier and parc de la Pointe-aux-Écrevisses provide access to the riverbanks for walking and picnicking.
Recreation
Parc Florence-Viens, the largest in the city, brings together sports fields, tennis courts, a skatepark and a pool.

This park on the banks of the Richelieu offers walking and cycling trails with a view of former hydroelectric installations. It's a great place to understand the historic link between the city and its river.
