Living in Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac
Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac runs along the north shore of the lac des Deux Montagnes, between Deux-Montagnes and Saint-Joseph-du-Lac, along chemin d'Oka. First a resort area with its summer cottages, it became a year-round residential suburb whose population has grown sharply since the 2000s. In April 2019, the breach of its dike forced the evacuation of more than 6,000 people; a new, higher dike has since been built over about 5 km. The city attracts mainly young families and commuters looking for newer construction near the REM.
