What I like about L'Assomption is that you can still feel, in the downtown along the river, the importance this town had in the 19th century.

L'Assomption is built in the meanders of the L'Assomption River, which the Indigenous peoples called “Outaragasipi,” the river that winds. First called Saint-Pierre-du-Portage, it was a prosperous town in the 19th century, known for the ceinture fléchée (arrowhead sash) and for the Collège de l'Assomption, founded in 1832. The town was merged with the parish in 1992, then with Saint-Gérard-Majella in 2000, which gives it a territory that is both urban and agricultural. It is also home to a constituent college of the Cégep régional de Lanaudière.

Heritage building and performance hall
Built in several phases starting in 1811 and designated in 1973, it is said to be the oldest county courthouse in Quebec. Today it houses a small performance hall devoted to comedy, music and emerging culture.
