Real estate broker inSaint-Jean-de-Matha

Saint-Jean-de-Matha has taken “Force et Nature” (Strength and Nature) as its motto, and I find it sums up well what people come here for: the story of Louis Cyr and the falls a few minutes away.

Living in Saint-Jean-de-Matha

Settled starting in 1836 by families in search of farmland, the parish of Saint-Jean-de-Matha was founded in 1852 and the municipality incorporated in 1855. The territory goes from the agricultural lands of the plain to the wooded hills of the Laurentians, with its sugar bushes, Lac Noir and Mont Pain de Sucre. The village, crossed by Route 131 north of Joliette, attracts families, retirees and outdoor enthusiasts who want the countryside without moving away from services.

Maison Louis-Cyr

Museum

Housed in the very house where Louis Cyr lived in the early 20th century, this museum tells the story of one of the strongest men of all time, from his feats to his family life. It is the heart of the “Strength” side of Saint-Jean-de-Matha's identity.

« I like that a Lanaudière village has built its identity around Louis Cyr: it says a lot about how attached people here are to their history. »
