A parish separated from Sainte-Martine in 1848 and a municipality since 1855, Saint-Urbain-Premier is named after Pope Urban I. Its village core, at the intersection of Routes 205 and 207, sits on raised ground with views of the surrounding farmland. Almost the entire territory is in the agricultural zone, with dairy and grain farms, sugar bushes and vineyards; the municipality is also the most forested in its RCM. The Rivière des Fèves and Rivière de l'Esturgeon cross it, and most people live in single-family homes.
