Settled starting in the 1830s, Saint-Sauveur became a parish in 1854-1855 after separating from Saint-Jérôme. The first ski lift was installed there in 1934 on mont Saint-Sauveur, making it a cradle of alpine skiing in Quebec. The present city was born in 2002 from the merger of Saint-Sauveur-des-Monts and Saint-Sauveur. It attracts second-home owners, outdoor-loving families and retirees who want a lively village year-round.
