Living in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu

Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu is the major city of the Haut-Richelieu, which grew up around Fort Saint-Jean, built in 1666 on the banks of the Rivière Richelieu. Since 2001, the current city has brought together the former municipalities of Saint-Jean, Iberville, Saint-Luc, L'Acadie and Saint-Athanase. It is home to a CEGEP, the Royal Military College Saint-Jean, a Canadian Armed Forces garrison and the Hôpital du Haut-Richelieu. You'll meet families, military personnel, students, retirees and commuters to Montréal.

Located on the grounds of the Royal Military College, on the banks of the Richelieu, the museum tells the story of more than 350 years of military presence. Uniforms, weapons and models help explain the river's strategic role in the country's history.

« The Fort Saint-Jean site is a reminder that the city has lived to the rhythm of the Richelieu for more than three centuries; the river still sets the tone in many of its neighbourhoods. »
