Real estate broker inStanstead

Stanstead is the only town where I can tell a buyer that the border runs right through the middle of an opera house.

Living in Stanstead

The town of Stanstead was created in 1995 through the merger of Stanstead Plain, Rock Island and Beebe Plain, three former towns lying right along the Vermont border. The granite industry was long the area's main economic engine. Its built heritage and institutions, such as Stanstead College and the Colby-Curtis Museum, reflect a long history on both sides of the border. You will find families, retirees and residents attached to the town's bilingual character.

My favourite spot in Stanstead

Bibliothèque et salle d'opéra Haskell

Heritage

Inaugurated in 1904, it was deliberately built on the Canada–U.S. border: in the opera house, much of the audience sits in the United States facing a stage located in Canada. It is a unique place to see at least once.

« The Haskell Opera House shows well what Stanstead is: a town where the border is part of everyday life without being a wall. »
