Saint-Paul developed starting in 1748 along the L'Assomption River, then the Ouareau River, with settlers who came mostly from L'Assomption and Saint-Sulpice. Established as a municipality in 1855 under the name Conversion-de-Saint-Paul, it adopted its current name in 1954. The L'Assomption River marks its southeast boundary up to the confluence with the Ouareau. Its population grew by 11.5% between 2016 and 2021, driven by families drawn by the proximity of Joliette and Highway 31.

Religious heritage
Built in 1803-1804 in the traditional Quebec style and designated in 1973, it preserves three paintings by Louis Dulongpré, an interior decor by Chrysostome Perreault and Pierre Guibord and a Casavant organ from 1904. It regularly hosts concerts of the Festival de Lanaudière, a fine opportunity to hear classical music in a heritage setting.
