Living in Mirabel

Mirabel was born in 1971 from the merger of several municipalities and massive expropriations intended to make room for the international airport, which opened in 1975. A vast territory of about 486 km², it remains largely agricultural, while hosting a leading aerospace hub around the airport. Its former villages, such as Saint-Janvier, Saint-Canut, Sainte-Scholastique or Saint-Benoît, each have their own character. The city has seen strong population growth, driven by families settling in its newer neighbourhoods.

Why Mirabel

What draws people here

Transportation

The Mirabel station on the exo Saint-Jérôme line, opened in 2021, and Highways 15, 13 and 50 link the city to Laval and Montréal.

Economy

Airbus assembles the A220 there and Bell Textron manufactures commercial helicopters, at the heart of one of Quebec's major aerospace hubs.

Outdoors

Two regional parks, the Bois de Belle-Rivière and the Domaine Vert, along with an extensive cycling network, round out the recreation offering.

My favourite spot in Mirabel

Parc régional éducatif du Bois de Belle-Rivière

Regional park

Across 176 hectares, the park offers hiking trails, swimming in ponds, trout fishing and art installations in the forest. In winter, you can skate on a 2.5 km icy trail deep in the forest, and go cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and sliding.

« The icy trail at the Bois de Belle-Rivière is a great winter outing: a good example of what Mirabel offers beyond its airport. »
