Sainte-Catherine runs along the St. Lawrence, facing the Lachine Rapids, and the St. Lawrence Seaway crosses its territory with the Côte-Sainte-Catherine lock. The construction of this lock in the late 1950s and the opening of the Honoré-Mercier and Champlain bridges spurred its growth until it became a city in 1973. A major commercial hub stretches along Route 132. Families, retirees and outdoor enthusiasts appreciate the direct access to the shoreline.
