The name Côte-Saint-Luc appears on maps as early as New France, around 1660. Incorporated as a village in 1903 and a city in 1958, the town grew strongly after the Second World War. Merged into Montréal in 2002, it became independent again in 2006. About a third of its territory is occupied by the Canadian Pacific rail yard, which divides the town into very distinct areas.
