Real estate broker inOka

In Oka, I find you can truly feel the history: between the Calvaire, the abbey and the ferry to Hudson, the village has kept a personality all its own.

Living in Oka

Oka stretches along the north shore of the lac des Deux Montagnes, in the west of the RCM, at the foot of the Oka hills. Its history is marked by the Calvaire d'Oka, a Way of the Cross built between 1740 and 1742, and by the Cistercian abbey founded in 1881, birthplace of the famous Oka cheese. The municipal territory partly surrounds the Mohawk community of Kanesatake. You will find a waterfront village, orchards on the rangs and a clientele of retirees, families and outdoor enthusiasts.

Why Oka

What draws people here

Transportation

Route 344 and Highway 640 link Oka to the North Shore, and the Oka–Hudson ferry reaches Vaudreuil-Soulanges in about ten minutes.

Heritage

The abbaye Notre-Dame-du-Lac, entered in the Répertoire du patrimoine culturel du Québec in 2020, bears witness to more than a century of Cistercian presence.

Agritourism

The orchards on the rangs of Oka, such as those on rang Sainte-Sophie, welcome apple pickers every autumn.

My favourite spot in Oka

Parc national d'Oka

National park

Covering nearly 24 km², the park brings together the beaches and marshes of the north shore of the lac des Deux Montagnes, silver maple groves where herons and wood ducks nest, and the Calvaire d'Oka on the hill. People come in summer for the beach and camping, and all year round for hiking, mountain biking or snowshoeing.

« Climbing up to the Calvaire d'Oka and seeing the lac des Deux Montagnes from above is the best way to understand why so many people choose this corner of the Laurentians. »
