Called Sainte-Clotilde-de-Châteauguay until 2010, the municipality is known for its black soil, highly fertile organic soils that shifted local agriculture from dairy farming to market gardening after the drainage work of the 1940s. A federal agricultural research substation was established here as early as 1936. Norton Creek crosses the territory. The village has grown rapidly with the Les Boisés des Pins residential development, which attracts young families and retirees.
