Saint-Colomban was settled starting in 1819-1821 by Irish families, to whom the Sulpicians granted lots in the former seigneury of Lac-des-Deux-Montagnes. The parish was established in 1836 and the cemetery preserves many Irish headstones. The city has seen spectacular growth, going from barely 301 residents in 1961 to more than 17,700 in 2021. It attracts mainly families looking for wooded lots near Saint-Jérôme and Mirabel.
