Contrecœur is a city I follow closely: a riverfront rich in history, an established steel mill and a new port terminal under construction.

Contrecœur takes its name from Antoine Pécaudy de Contrecœur, an officer of the Carignan-Salières Regiment, who received a seigneury in 1672 and settled there with pioneers. The city stretches along the St. Lawrence, facing the Îles de Contrecœur, protected as a national wildlife area. The economy has long relied on steel, with ArcelorMittal's facilities. In 2026, the Port of Montréal began building a container terminal here.

The moulin Chaput, one of the last original windmills in Québec, and the Sainte-Trinité church bear witness to the seigneurial past.
The Îles de Contrecœur National Wildlife Area and parc régional des Grèves offer birdwatching and hiking.
