Living in Coaticook

Coaticook takes its name from the Coaticook River, an Abenaki word said to mean "river lined with white pines." The town is the centre of an agricultural RCM with many dairy farms, and its famous dairy, founded in 1940, produces ice cream and cheese here. The townships of Barnston and Barford were merged into it in 1998. You will find families, agricultural and industrial workers, and retirees who appreciate a town on a human scale.

Why Coaticook

What draws people here

Nature

The Parc de la Gorge de Coaticook and its suspension bridge attract visitors from everywhere.

Agri-food

The Laiterie de Coaticook, founded in 1940, is an emblematic business of the town.

Heritage

The Musée Beaulne occupies the Arthur-Osmore-Norton castle, built in 1912 and designated a historic monument.

My favourite spot in Coaticook

Parc de la Gorge de Coaticook

Regional park

The park is known for its 169-metre suspension bridge over the gorge and for Foresta Lumina, an illuminated nighttime trail created in 2014. It is the attraction that has made Coaticook known well beyond the Eastern Townships.

« Crossing the gorge footbridge helps you understand why the Coaticook River shaped the town: it is both its landscape and its history. »
