Living in La Prairie
Founded by the Jesuits in 1647 as La Prairie de la Magdeleine, La Prairie is one of the oldest settlements on the South Shore. It was from here, in 1836, that the first railway in British North America set out for Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. Its Vieux-La Prairie, protected since 1975, sits alongside newer neighbourhoods such as Symbiocité and large wooded areas such as the Grand Boisé. The city attracts heritage lovers and young families alike.
