Settling in Lanoraie

Is Lanoraie right for you?

Lanoraie suits families, retirees and commuters who want a rural setting within reasonable distance of Montréal. You need to check whether the property is in a flood zone: during the 2017 flood, a portion of the Grande Côte Est, along Route 138, had been identified as vulnerable. In the village core, heritage rules may govern exterior work, and in rural areas the well, the septic system and the agricultural zoning should be confirmed.

What you'll find here

  • Older homes in the village core
  • Single-family homes in residential sectors
  • Waterfront properties on the Grande Côte along the river
  • Farms and farmland
  • Lots in a rural setting

Maison des Cageux du fleuve Saint-Laurent

Museum

This museum and maritime café on rue Notre-Dame tells the epic story of the cageux, the log drivers who guided timber rafts down the river, with an exhibit, a film and a reconstructed raft. A great way to understand Lanoraie's maritime past.

« Lanoraie was a port and a shipyard long before being a distant suburb, and I find that this history gives the village a character you do not find elsewhere. »

The flood zone mapping, the property's flood history and the insurance available, since part of the Grande Côte Est has already been affected by a rise in the river. An inspection of the basement and the drainage is also recommended.
